Surprise of surprises! I found my dress already. I wasn't planning on getting my dress so soon but when you've found the right dress, you've found the right dress.
In March my Mom, Aunt Stephanie, my cousin Christine and I went to the David's Bridal in Santa Clarita to try on a few dresses and try to get an idea of what I like. They were pretty busy and I didn't get to try on as many dresses as I wanted to but that's okay.
Promises. The little dress shop I underestimated. I have walked past
this store several times a week for the last four year. Chris and I
referred to this store "the drag queen store" this entire time because
all they ever put in the windows were flashy, brightly colored prom
dresses that I could not believe any actual women would wear.
Apparently, this store was doing a super good job of hiding the fact
that they're actually a super-classy dress shop with absolutely gorgeous
dresses and some really pleasant people. I am no longer allowed to make
fun of this store ever again.
I had an appointment in
the middle of the afternoon on Saturday. I assumed that the person who
was going to be helping me would probably be helping other people. This
was not true! I was introduced to a sweet young lady named Emily who
told me I had her all to myself for the next couple hours and I could
try on whatever I want! At the first bridal store I tried on about five
dresses over the course of an hour and a half. At Promises, I was able
to try on between 15 and 20 dresses and had Emily's full attention for
the entirety of my appointment. Apparently, some other girls were late
for their appointments so for a good portion of the appointment I had
all three ladies (including the store's owner) fretting over me.
Fantastic! I really do feel like their attentiveness and their help led
me to find the dress that would become My Dress. It was almost all of
the things I said I didn't want but it looks fantastic on me. I am so
incredibly pleased.
For now, my dress lives at
Promises where I can visit it any time I want. It's going to stay there
until we get a little closer to the actual wedding when I can have the
final alterations made. For now, it looks like this:
No, I'm not going to show you my actual dress! Are you crazy? The
hardest thing right now is to resist taking Chris over to Promises and
showing him the dress. I know he'll love it. But the waiting and the
surprise are well worth it. I want that moment to be special. While I
want everyone to feel included in this wedding process, I need to have
my surprises too...
