Photo Collage: Venue Hunting

Some lovely flowers at the Farmer's Market in Arcata.

This truck lives in the parking lot of Hartley Botanica. So love it.
Dad and I with the cool truck.
Look at that classy dude I'm going to marry!

In a secret cove at Hartley Botanica.
My Mom's "subtle" way of asking if I am taking Chris' name. Yup! I'll be a Larsen!

Fun hat shopping!

Dad and I look super dapper in top hats.

Chris looks incredibly insightful at The Odyssey. Winning hearts and minds right there.

This cute deer lives at William S. Hart park! He has two antlers growing out of one side of his head.

William S. Hart Park is beautiful but I fear bees and snakes.

The Newhall Mansion. We heard rumors that they had really agreeable rates. Turns out that wasn't so. Also, they didn't want children there due to an uncovered pool.

It is an absolutely beautiful building though.

Spiral staircase!

I will post more photos as they become available. :)

I Found the Dress!

Surprise of surprises! I found my dress already. I wasn't planning on getting my dress so soon but when you've found the right dress, you've found the right dress.

In March my Mom, Aunt Stephanie, my cousin Christine and I went to the David's Bridal in Santa Clarita to try on a few dresses and try to get an idea of what I like. They were pretty busy and I didn't get to try on as many dresses as I wanted to but that's okay.

Promises. The little dress shop I underestimated. I have walked past this store several times a week for the last four year. Chris and I referred to this store "the drag queen store" this entire time because all they ever put in the windows were flashy, brightly colored prom dresses that I could not believe any actual women would wear. Apparently, this store was doing a super good job of hiding the fact that they're actually a super-classy dress shop with absolutely gorgeous dresses and some really pleasant people. I am no longer allowed to make fun of this store ever again.

I had an appointment in the middle of the afternoon on Saturday. I assumed that the person who was going to be helping me would probably be helping other people. This was not true! I was introduced to a sweet young lady named Emily who told me I had her all to myself for the next couple hours and I could try on whatever I want! At the first bridal store I tried on about five dresses over the course of an hour and a half. At Promises, I was able to try on between 15 and 20 dresses and had Emily's full attention for the entirety of my appointment. Apparently, some other girls were late for their appointments so for a good portion of the appointment I had all three ladies (including the store's owner) fretting over me. Fantastic! I really do feel like their attentiveness and their help led me to find the dress that would become My Dress. It was almost all of the things I said I didn't want but it looks fantastic on me. I am so incredibly pleased.

For now, my dress lives at Promises where I can visit it any time I want. It's going to stay there until we get a little closer to the actual wedding when I can have the final alterations made. For now, it looks like this:
No, I'm not going to show you my actual dress! Are you crazy? The hardest thing right now is to resist taking Chris over to Promises and showing him the dress. I know he'll love it. But the waiting and the surprise are well worth it. I want that moment to be special. While I want everyone to feel included in this wedding process, I need to have my surprises too...

We Found the Venue!

It's official! There's no backing down now! ;) We have booked our venue and our wedding date is set in stone. Allow me to introduce our amazing venue! The beautiful Hartley Botanica Nursery and Gardens. This is a family owned and operated nursery and garden facility. I'm told that they started out as just a nursery but then there was so much interest from couples to hold their weddings on-site that they decided that they should expand their horizons. It's an absolutely fantastic space with some absolutely gorgeous gardens. When we were hunting for a venue, I was looking for a place that has a lot of already present beauty. While I want to decorate and bring in our style, I also don't want to have to start with a totally clean slate.

Another great feature of this venue is that we're going to have the whole place to ourselves. This isn't one of those places where there will be ten different events going on at the same time and we won't have to compete for space. All guests will have the freedom to explore the grounds at their leisure. This is also a great feature for photo opportunities and such things.

In a couple months, Chris and I will make another trip down to LA to nail down details and the menu. So exciting!

In the next couple of months Chris and I are doing a photo shoot so we can get our "Save the Date" cards in the mail!
